  • Conciseness

Key observations:

At only 41 pages, National Australia Bank's (NAB) Annual Review provides a concise overview of performance, outputs and, in some cases, impacts (related to social return on investment), as well as the company’s strategy for creating value. The report presents top-level information and makes good use of ‘Learn more’ icons and web links. This approach to ‘information layering’ is evident in the risk discussion on page 23, which provides an overview of the company’s approach to risk management on a single page, highlighting the “three lines of defense” for risk accountability in the organization – line management, risk, and internal audit – and detailing each area’s responsibilities in managing risk.  The icon and banner at the bottom of the page then directs readers to specific pages within the Annual Financial Report for a more detailed discussion of risk.
