Key observations:

The EnBW Annual Report identifies its key performance indicators (KPIs) and discusses the interaction of these measures in the context of its strategy and stakeholder interactions.  The inclusion of customer satisfaction measures and employee commitment figures alongside financial metrics such as Adjusted EBITDA demonstrates that EnBW is committed to measuring performance across all capitals (and not focused solely on financial performance).  The diagram on page 27 identifies the key performance dimensions identified by the company – finance, strategy, employee, customer, and environment – and indicates the financial and non-financial KPIs relevant to each dimension.

EnBW also disclosed the fact that its performance management system was updated in 2013 incorporate both financial and non-financial goals in each of the performance dimensions.  The company's application of the <IR> Framework has in turn impacted the management process by which the company monitors progress toward and achievement of its goals.  Lastly, each of the KPIs are defined, and a cross-reference is provided to the quantitative analysis of each KPI later in the report for the current reporting period (i.e. page 49 – Adjusted EBITDA) and a forecast of the expected performance in the coming year (i.e. page 85 – Adjusted EBITDA).
