· Performance

  • Conciseness
  • Connectivity of information
  • Materiality
  • Strategic focus and future orientation

Key observations:

Whilst Highways Agency have a distinct section on sustainability in the Report, the information is integrated into the operational activities and features frequent connections to the more financial aspect of narrative reporting.

This section features graphs and tables to demonstrate performance against previous targets, along with year-on-year data which allows the audience to recognise trends. One of the key metrics is ‘business travel’ cost which directly relates to both the expenditure of the organisation and its carbon footprint, thus integrating financial and non-financial reporting.

Finally, there is a drive to further information online which helps to maintain a conciseness of the information without sacrificing access to further detail.
