Key observations:

Munich Airport’s report explains the company’s ‘Expansion plans’ which are focused on infrastructure – which is a critical capital for the company – with the aim of meeting the future demands in freight and passengers.

In this section of the report, business information based on the external macro-economy is provided together with quantitative estimates of future growth and demand up to 2025. The report also shares the views of the state government and several external authorities who emphasise and acknowledge the importance of the airport as the European hub and the value of the strategic investment in the capacity of the airport.

To explain how the organization will meet future demands, the report gives  more details about a number of factors including: the planning process; construction of a new runway and a new terminal building; refurbishment of an existing terminal; new use of the airport campus; and expansion of a hotel. The report describes not only the benefits, but also the challenges facing Munich Airport related to the expansion. The challenges – such as noise, carbon emissions, the construction schedule and tenders for construction work – are openly addressed in the section.

Overall, the reader gains an insight into the importance of appropriate capacity at an airport and can therefore better understand why the organization may need to expand.
